Moved By God

Pastor Brian Codrington

Sunday 6th May

Moved by God
The central activity of God that runs right through the Bible from Genesis to Revelation and everything in between is the redemption and restoration of the world. In a word, “mission”.
What evidence is there in the Scriptures for that?
The Old Testament
Look at the examples of Gods response to the falI right there in the Garden.
The call of, and promise to Abraham
God’s love extended beyond the Israelites to the likes of Rahab, Ruth and Namaan – foreigners yet all part of God’s plan of redemption and reconciliation.
God’s heart of mission expressed in the call and journey of Jonah.
The New Testament
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him” John 3:16,17
“The spirit of the Lord is on me, because He has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.” (Jesus) Luke 4:18,19
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” Matthew 28:19,20

The result – “many will come from the east and the west and take their places at the feast with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven” Matthew 8:11
and “after this I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb ..” Revelation 7:9a
Am I moved by God’s heart for those outside the Kingdom? Do I want to engage with Him in the work of the Kingdom?
Let’s ask ourselves some key questions
1. Have I really commenced a relationship with Jesus?
…. or do I just know about God. Is my life being transformed by the Spirit’s power?

2. Have I told God I want to be used by Him?

3. Am I listening to the Spirit’s prompting each day?

Prayer is the first and continuing active step in our engagement in mission. To be engaged in mission without the power of the Spirit is futile.
Reflect on the prompting of the Spirit in the life of Philip (Acts 8); Ananias (Acts 9) and Peter (Acts 10)

4. Do I Start Where People Are?
Pauls example in Acts 17.

5. Am I too judgemental?

6. Be bold and go for it!

As God moves us, let’s move forward in His power, to impact the world in which we live.

Key texts: Genesis 12; Luke 4; Acts 10.

Session 2 – Moved by Others
Inspirational stories of God calling people into mission, highlighting the faithfulness and ordinariness of his followers.
Key texts: Acts 1, 8; Hebrews 11.

Session 3 – Moved by the Need
Reminded by God’s heart to reach all people, we need cultural relevance, a global perspective and a dedicated response to the Spirit’s prompting.
Key texts: Matthew 9, 28.

Prayer Workshop

Saturday 5th to Sunday 6th May

The Prayer Workshop for 2012 will be facilitated by Des Daniels.  Des developed the Prayer 101 Workshop from his experiences as a Pastor and his burden to “equip the saints for the work of ministry”  Ephesians 4:12

The two main aims of the workshop are:

1. To facilitate personal revival in the individual through the establishment or strengthening of an effective quiet time

2. To either establish or strengthen a corporate prayer strategy in a local church

The workshops comprise 4 x 2 hour sessions:

Session 1 – The Priority of Prayer

Session 2 – The Pattern of Prayer

Session 3 – The Price of Prayer

Session 4 – The Plan of Prayer

In each of the churches where Des has led these workshops, there has been a high level of participation and great feedback, so that participants are motivated to continue to grow in their prayer lives.
